I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch no. 57 of the 5th of May last, regarding a proposed increase in the salaries of the Clerks in the Police department.
I am willing to sanction the increases specified, the delay in the rise to each of them being conditional on good conduct in the office, and provision may be made in the Estimates for 1882 for defraying the outlay, which will date from January next.
